Learn Digital Skills Without Leaving the Region
By Steven Coochin — 2026-11-03
Why are regional areas always forgotten? Not anymore! If you live in Central Queensland and want to work in tech or digital marketing, the usual advice is to pack up and move to the city. For a long time, that advice was hard to argue with because the jobs, training, and mentors were all in the cities. I spent years working out of capital cities before moving off-grid outside Clermont, and I learned your job doesn't always need you to be there. A decent connection and the right skills will take you far from a property in the bush.
What's been missing is somewhere to learn those skills close to home, from people who understand what working in the region is actually like. That's what learn.muster.life is for. It's part of Muster, and you can learn more about the wider platform at muster.life.
What Muster is
Muster is the software we built to run Clermont Digital. Our clients, projects, team chat, HR and day-to-day operations all live in it, and we update it regularly as the agency grows and the way we work changes. Building our own tools lets us shape them around how our team actually works, rather than bending our work around someone else's product.
Muster Learn is the newest part of that platform. It's a learning space anyone can sign up to, built in-house and funded by us. It sits on the same foundations as the rest of Muster, so we give it the same ongoing care as the tools we rely on to run the business.
Built from experience, shaped for what's next
These courses aren't pulled from a textbook. We built them on years of experience in software, development, and digital marketing, then adapted them to how the industry has changed. The way software gets built today looks very different from even a few years ago, with AI now part of the everyday workflow, and the way businesses get found and win customers online has shifted just as much.
The courses reflect how the industry is unfolding now, not how it worked a decade ago. They're also designed around the roles we need as an agency moving forward. When you work through a course, you're learning the skills we look for when we bring someone onto a project, so the gap between finishing a course and doing real work is much smaller.
The development courses in particular are built around the fundamentals of the software development lifecycle (SDLC): planning what you're building, writing and reviewing code, testing it, packaging it, deploying it and looking after it once it's live. AI can now write a lot of code very quickly, but it doesn't always write the right code. It can misread your request, invent a function that doesn't exist, skip tests, or confidently fix one problem while quietly creating two more.
If you don't understand how software is put together, you won't spot any of that until something breaks. Knowing the lifecycle means you can read what the machine has produced, check it against what was actually needed, and recognise when it's gone off the rails. That's the difference between someone who types prompts and someone who can be trusted with a client's project. AI does a lot of the heavy lifting in our work now, but a person still has to steer it, and these courses are designed to make you that person.
What You Can Learn
There are two streams to start with.
Tech and development: The first course, AI-Driven Development Basics, starts by setting up your tools on Mac or Windows, so you're not stuck before you begin. From there, it teaches you to read and understand basic program code, then walks you through containerising a hello world app, a skill used every day in modern development. It's built on the same material we've used to mentor people into tech work.
Marketing: Practical digital marketing courses, written by the people who do that work for our clients every day. They cover the practical side of marketing a business online, taught the way we apply it in real client work.
More courses are coming in both streams. Because Muster Learn is part of the platform we use every day, we can add new material as the industry keeps moving.
How a Lesson Works
Each lesson runs in three parts, so you're not just reading and hoping it sticks:
1. Reading, with diagrams that show how things fit together and, in the tech courses, code you can copy straight into your editor.
2. Hands-on steps you work through yourself and tick off as you go.
3. Multiple-choice questions, marked as soon as you answer, with an explanation of why the right answer is right.
Lessons are grouped into sections, and each course sets a pass mark. Reach it on a section's questions, and you're done with that section. If you miss it, you can try again as many times as you need, with no penalty and no waiting. The point is to understand the material, not to get it right the first time.
Pass every section, and you get a certificate that says "Passed". It stays on your profile so you can always find it, and it comes with a link anyone can use to check it's genuine, which is handy when you're putting it in front of an employer.
Made for regional connections
You are out here on satellite or fixed wireless, and much online learning assumes a fast, steady city connection, which means YOU miss out. Muster Learn doesn't. There's no video, pages are kept light, images are sized for phones, and the whole journey works in your phone's browser. The writing is plain too, so you don't need to already speak the industry's language to get started. Designed for the many and the few, who need to be seen, heard and learn.
Muster Learn is now on iOS and Android, on the App Store and Google Play, and the apps save courses for offline use. Download a course when you've got signal and keep working through it when you don't.
A pathway to work
When you sign up, there's a box to say you're happy for Clermont Digital to contact you about work. It stays unticked unless you tick it, and you can still use every course without it.
If you do tick it, we look at how well you understood the material, not just that you passed. Your first attempts, the questions you found tricky and the practical work you submit tell us far more than a certificate on its own, and a person makes the call, not an algorithm. That can lead to mentoring, contract work or a job. Two people we've mentored through this material are already working in tech, and that's the kind of outcome we want to see more of across the region.
Rolling out across CQ
We're in the process of partnering with organisations across the Central Queensland region to help with the rollout and awareness. The aim is to reach people who might not otherwise hear about a pathway like this, including those in smaller towns and on rural properties. If your organisation works with people who'd benefit, tell us who they are, and we’ll bring the courses to them.
Getting Started
You need to be 16 or older to sign up. You can browse the courses at learn.muster.life without an account, see what each one covers and how long it takes, then sign up when you're ready to start one. It costs nothing.
Your data stays under your control. You can delete your account at any time, and if you don't sign in for a year, you'll get an email before we remove it.
